Mum-of-five Barbara Roberts was at a loose end when her youngest child Reece started school. A full-time mum since leaving school herself, she had time to herself for the first time in years.
It was then that she headed to Demesne to volunteer three times a week at the centre's luncheon club and blind group.
And she said volunteering at Demesne has seen her confidence sore.
She said: “When my youngest Reece went to school I did some courses and then my driving test to give me mething to focus on, but to be honest I was quite depressed being in the house all day
“Coming here has really improved my confidence. When I first started I was very quiet, kept myself busy and my head down, but now I chat with everyone and feel really comfortable here.”
Now Barbara, who lives in Mosedale Road, has been inspired to turn her volunteering into a way to gain qualifications and work in the future looking after older people.
