Getting behind a computer has opened up a new world for 79-year-old Beryl Lister. She first headed to Demesne 10 years ago to learn the basics of computing, but now is taking part in the centre's Silver Surfer course.
She said: “When I first came 10 years ago the internet was still quite a new thing so we just learnt the basics of computing but there wasn't much I could do with it.
“Now I'm learning about the internet I'm looking forward to emailing friends and doing my shopping online. It’s opening up a whole new world for me.”
Beryl, who lives on Bowness road, has invested in a new computer to put her new IT-skills to the test at home.
She added: “I really enjoy baking and cooking and watch a lot of the cookery programmes which say their recipes are available on the internet.”
