When friends and neighbours Edna Saxon and Beryl Lister headed to Demesne to learn about computers they had no idea they'd be going to a keep fit class. The duo, who have lived next door to each other on Bowness road for 20 years, enrolled on a silver surfer course at the centre, but within weeks had become popular members of the Mature Movers class.
The weekly club allows the over 50s the chance to keep fit through low-impact exercises that are tailored for each class member.
“I live on my own so it’s a great way to make new friends and keep in touch with people at the class."
Beyrl, 79, said: “The class is fantastic and a great way to get fit and active. Since we started coming we've been to almost every one.

As well as coming to Mature Movers club and an internet for over 60s class, Beryl and Edna also see a visiting chiropodist every five weeks at Demesne.
Edna added: “I was a bit frightened about coming at first but they make you feel so welcome here. The centre is just across the road from us so it's easy for us to walk across. I think if it was two or three miles away we might not bother but we've become regulars since we started coming here.”
