About Langley & Middleton
The ancient hamlet of Middleton in Manchester boomed in the industrial revolution as a regional silk-weaving centre. That growth continued through the nineteenth and twentieth century, culminating in the building of the Langley estate in the 1950s and 60s. Originally conceived as an overspill estate
for slums of Manchester, it is now home to 11,000 people living in a mix of private and social-housing. Middleton has a higher level of nemployment compared to the national average whilst life expectancy is much lower than the national average.
I.T. Classes for older people
We have a number of IT classes for older people which have been put together to turn novices into silver surfers. From turning on a computer to using the internet and sending an email, the classes give older people the confidence to use a computer, allowing them to keep in touch with friends, take digital photographs and shop online, allowing them to socialise and interact with the world around them. And because the work of the centre is guided by residents themselves through their management committee, these priorities will continue to reflect the needs and desires of the people who use these services. Please see our courses page for details.
